There Will Be Blood

To say that I am horrified, scared, and generally PISSED OFF about who we've elected president is a massive understatement.  My art will reflect this, as my new DeviantID does.

Wordpress

Wed Jan 20, 2016, 4:11 AM
Disregard previous entry.  Have had Wordpress for a while now, using the Customizr theme.  I've found that using Wordpress and plugins is the best way to keep my website clean and useful.

Redesigning My Website

Mon Oct 7, 2013, 10:13 PM
I'm a lazy, lazy designer.  I've been trying to teach myself how to use Adobe Muse, and while I love the program, I love it because it's easier than shit to use... albeit a little tougher to implement.  I needed a lot more features for my website than it could provide and I HATE writing code.  I don't know shit about HTML5, though I'm sort of learning that.  I can write simple html, no problem.  CSS, a little knowledge there, but I still need a program to remind me of all the options.

I've wanted a blog on my website for the longest time.  It would make things easier for announcing updates and the like.  But I could never find the right design.  Along with a new website design, I was growing frustrated until I remembered my Wordpress accounts.  And I thought, now here's something I didn't consider.  Use a self-hosted Wordpress design.

Finding a good Wordpress design is tedious.  It takes forever to find something decent for FREE.  I discovered 4Templates, and I bought a theme.  But as I started designing, I found all sorts of things that the theme didn't provide or allow and I grew frustrated.  I want nearly full control of a design, and not being able to change the color and type of the body font, as well as color and type for everything else, had me ticked off.

So I found My Site My Way.  And these themes are awesome!  You can modify the skins that come with all their designs by default.  It has many, many options.  My only whine would be that I'm a visual learner, and I'd have liked an "Idiot's Step-By-Step Guide" to implementing and customizing.  I've learned a hell of a lot through "oh that's what that's supposed to do" learning.  Redesigning my website was a hell of a lot easier than doing it the standard html/css way.  I'm not done with writing/uploading all the content features I had on my old website, but I'm getting there, slowly but surely.

I have a sub-site on my domain that requires a different design, IMO, and I wasn't happy with all the designs out there.  So I just created another Wordpress install and installed the theme I'd bought for my main website.  Unfortunately, it's going to take me a damn long time to transfer content.  Compared to the old html files, I have a lot of pages to recreate. :headdesk:  Some hundred+ pages.  Ugh.  I wish I could have found a non-Wordpress design that didn't cost $79 fickin' dollars.  But I'm happy with the look and design.  I just wish there was an easier way to transfer an html file to a Wordpress page.  Sheesh.  Me and my brilliant ideas. ;)

I post a submission, and I get excited when I see there's a comment. :)  So I go to read it and ...

it's fucking spam.  By supposedly real people.  I don't like blocking people but if this crap keeps up...

Photo Painting...

Mon Jun 3, 2013, 10:13 AM

Is easy.  And potentially addictive. ;)  I shouldn't succumb to the desire to paint all my favorite images (movies, tv, etc.); I'll inundate my gallery.  Or maybe that wouldn't be a bad idea.  I don't have many watchers from fandom.  Perhaps I should try to change that. ;)

Maybe it's OCD

Wed Mar 20, 2013, 6:15 PM

I like to be creative, but when I find something I like--stars, waves, etc.--I tend to stick to it until I get sick of it.  Or until I just randomly move a transform to see what happens.  Still, I do tend to stick to themes like stars and waves.

Am currently teaching myself to digitally paint with Painter 12.  It's frustrating because I'm used to real world control with a brush.  Plus the aggravation is aided by my not having bought an Intuos tablet, settling for the Bamboo Splash. *sigh*  It's gonna take a while to save up for the Intuos, but if I want to have the correct brush control, I'm gonna need that tablet.  Live and Learn.

Creating From Other Work

Sun Feb 17, 2013, 9:54 PM

One of the ways I learn is by doing something similar to what someone else has.  I learned to draw by copying comics.  I learned to paint by watching Bob Ross.  I learned to write by reading.  I learned to play with Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop by using tutorial files.

Math is *not* my strong suit.  I can quickly deduct change from a dollar and multiply fractions when I'm cooking.  But math is a loss.  I know geometric shapes but geometry is lost on me and algebra gives me an instant "theory isn't proof" headache--which is stupid since I'm a fantasy-lateral thinker and all *that* kind of thinking works on is theory.

Fractal math is lost on me.  I get repetition.  I get similarity through repetition.  I don't get how to create a flame from scratch.  I can tweak.  I change transforms and iterations and coloring.  What I make is largely based on ideas gotten from other people's scripts, tutorials, and params/flames they've shared.  Only a small percentage of what I've created is "original", taken from a random batch or basic flame.

When I find something out of a flame that someone else has shared, I feel thrilled.  I'm grateful for the knowledge of others, for their consideration in sharing what they've made.  I try very hard (now that I know how to do it) to change a shared parameter so it doesn't resemble the one shared, but *is* a variation--whether it has kept original transforms or not.

My point:  I'd like to be "original", but I'm not.  That shouldn't suggest that I have no imagination.  I just love other folks' artwork and the inspirations that result. :)

So thank you to all of you who share your work.  I'm in awe.

You know what it's like to restore a backup section only to find that the brushes you want to put back on your regular drive are missing?

IOW, you know what it's like to have to re-download all the brushes you've collected?

Oh, and the same for my font collection.

Hello everyone. :)  Thanks for visiting. :)

QUESTION:  I need to render a fractal flame that will be have to be over 3000x(16:9) for print purposes.  Before I even try this is in Apophysis or Chaotica (in case the programs hang, close, or refuse to render that size), I would like some advice.

Is there another program (not UF, it never works for me) that will render large sizes?

Changing Skins and Other Stuff

Tue Jan 22, 2013, 8:14 PM

Thanks to SaTaNiA for making and sharing this skin.  My favorite themes are space and fractals since they tend to go with my artwork here.

=============

Been working on fractals inbetween the sparse tutorials for my Bamboo Splash tablet.  Stupid carpal tunnel keeps me from doing anything artful, aside from fractals since that only requires a mouse.

One of these days, I'm gonna be able to use all the features here at DA.  In the meantime, guess it's me and the mouse.  Oh, and my camera, which I bought solely to take pics of my new kitty.  Now if the stupid brat would just stay still for a minute without sleeping...

Abstract Laterals and Apophysis 64bit

Journal Entry: Mon Dec 10, 2012, 12:09 PM
Seems that my fractals have been sort of stuck in lateral abstracts.  Lateral meaning weird. ;)

Have a 64-bit windows finally.  And for some reason, the plugins won't load.  About the only good thing about 64 is fast mutation loads. *sigh*  Ah well.

Haven't been doing much lately.  Still trying to de-stress.  Have my own apt finally.  Have me a gorgeous black kitten (whom I named Sam Winchester *g*).  Am now waiting for my writer's block to end and my art blockage to lift.  Being disabled (spine) is a pain in the ass.  I don't know what to do with myself all day.  Been in my own place for a month now.  And I keep feeling like Bloat at the end of Finding Nemo.  "Now what?" ;)

On the bright sun of cool side:  Comcast cable.  I haven't had cable in a very long time.  Hooking it up to my HDTV, computer, Kindle, and cellphone is totally Made Of Awesome! :)

Calling all military veterans!  If you have art to share, you can share it at the "Veterans' Art" group.  I'm a newbie, so it's not a premium group, nothing fancy or pretty, and I'll probably make a few mistakes.  But as the lady said in "Poltergeist", all are welcome.  ---> As are suggestions by the experienced among us. :)

Journal Entry: Tue Jul 31, 2012, 2:40 PM
I wish Apophysis 7x had the "waves" plugin/variation, but at least it's still in v.209.  I'm in a "do everything with waves" mood period or whatever, just seeing how much more I can do with it.  I guess it's repetitive and boring for everyone but myself, and I do apologize for that, but I do so love the waves, whether they're smoke or liquid.

massacre

Journal Entry: Fri Jul 20, 2012, 6:08 PM
I've been criticized today for my pragmatic attitude toward the Aurora, CO mass murder.  I've always reacted to crisis this way.  I want to fix things so the crisis doesn't get repeated.

Emotionally, I'm sickened, disgusted, and fucking pissed off.  What the hell is it gonna take for We The People to stand up to the goddamn NRA psychopaths and tell them that the right to own a weapon is *not* a right to own murder weapons, i.e., automatic weapons.  Those guns are used for murder, not self-defense or hunting.  We The People do not need to pervert our 2nd Amendment.  We need sense, not irrationality and greed.
